DESCRIPTION

VACANCY INFORMATION:
The current vacancies are Grade II ($3,839.60 - $5,229.84 biweekly)
Plan Checker - Electrical II in the Community Development
Department.
Salary Information:
Grade I - $3,558.64 - $4,839.04 Bi-Weekly
Grade II - $3,839.60 - $5,229.84 Bi-Weekly
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, reviews and approves the design of
electrical equipment
and systems in buildings and structures; examines electrical
construction documents, plans, and specifications for compliance
with applicable laws and ordinances; establishes procedures for
acceptance and processing of electrical construction documents and
permits; computes fees, approves changes, and coordinates other
construction documents processed by the department; consults with
or advises design professionals, property owners, and builders
regarding their electrical projects and related electrical codes or
regulations; advises
inspectors and other department personnel in the inspection of
electrical installations; assists in the training of personnel
assigned to electrical inspection; communicates findings and
recommendations both orally and in writing regarding design or
installation of electrical equipment or systems; reviews
preliminary designs or construction documents of electrical
equipment or systems; participates in technical meetings; prepares
electrical ordinance changes as requested; maintains records and
prepares correspondence and reports; and
performs other related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS TO FILE
Candidates must meet one of the following Options A, B, C or D:
Option A: A minimum of one year of professional experience
equivalent to the City of Long Beach classifications: Principal
Building Inspector or Senior Electrical InspectorOR Plan Checker
Electrical.
Option B:A minimum of two years professional experience as a Plans
ExaminerOR Inspector equivalent to the City of Long Beach
classifications: Senior Plumbing Inspector, Senior Mechanical
Inspector or Senior Combination Building Inspector, Plan Checker -
Plumbing, Plan Checker - Mechanical, or Plan Checker - Fire
Prevention.
Option C:Graduation from a four-year accredited college or
university with a degree in
Electrical EngineeringOR closely related fieldOR possess an
Engineer-In-Training (E.I.T.) certificationORpossess a professional
engineering license(Proof required)*AND two years' experience in
electrical construction and/or electrical engineering.
Option D:Possess a valid Professional Engineering (PE) license in
electrical or closely related field(Proof required) *.
*Proof of required documents, such as degree or transcripts, must
be uploaded to the online application at the time of filing. Any
proofs submitted must contain either the applicant's name or other
identifying characteristics on the form. Degrees must indicate the
field of study and transcripts must indicate a field of study and
degree conferred date. Candidates who possess degrees from colleges
or universities outside the United States must attach proof of

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
--- Ability to use computer applications (e.g., database
management, project scheduling, spreadsheets, word processing and
email).
--- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
A valid motor vehicle operator's license and a current DMV driving
record must be submitted to the hiring department at the time of
the selection interview.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Electrical plans examination or
inspection certification issued by the International Association of
Electrical Inspectors (IAEI), International Code Council (ICC) or
other nationally recognized organizations is desirable at the time
of filing; and is required prior to passing probation.

Qualifying
Screening of applicants will be conducted on the basis of
application and required supplemental application submitted. This
selection procedure will be conducted using a continuous
non-competitive process, which means applications are evaluated
solely on training, experience, education, or certification.
Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications withapplications
received by April 12, 2024, will be placed on Test #01 established
eligible list.
In accordance with Civil Service Procedure 3.38, all eligible
veterans that successfully qualify on any or all open-competitive
examinations shall receive an additional credit of ten (10) points
that will be added to their original passing score. Disabled
veterans passing the examination shall receive a credit of fifteen
(15) points that will be added to their original passing score. (A
copy of the veterans DD-214, Member 4 form indicating honorable
discharge must be attached to the application at the time of
filing.)
