The Housing Navigator works to provide participants with support in locating and securing permanent housing, including providing home visits and other housing-related field-based visits. In addition to providing direct support to participants, the Housing Navigator also assists with engaging, managing and retaining landlord and property management company relationships. This includes providing landlord outreach and engagement services to develop a full range of permanent housing opportunities for homeless veterans and providing targeted customer service and mediation support for participating properties to promote long-term tenancy and partnership. In this capacity, the Housing Navigator works to find creative solutions to prevent tenant evictions and work to support positive tenant and landlord resolutions.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE THROUGH ACTIONThe following reflects management's definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned:

  • Provide support to program participants with housing location
  • Develop and maintain relationships with landlords, and provide support as concerns arise
  • Participate in SSVF Team meetings
  • Participate with the development of individualized service plans
  • Provide support to help resolve tenant & landlord disputes working with case management teams, tenants, and property.
  • Provide property inspections.
  • Conduct office, home, and field visits to program participants
  • Network with other agencies, coalitions, and local community meetings.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Actively collaborate with case managers on the clients' progress and challenges
  • Gain knowledge of the rules and regulations of the federal housing programs
  • Prepare case-related reports including outcomes, successes and challenges.
  • Maintain complete and accurate documentation of service objectives and outcomes as well as other services in accordance with Federal, State, County and guidelines

    MUST HAVE:
    • Reliable transportation and proof of insurance
    • Valid CA Drivers License
    • Comfortable interacting with the homeless population and passionate about helping these individuals succeed
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Fully Covid vaccinated
      Nice to have:
      • Bachelor's degree in a related human services field OR a 2 years of related experience
      • Written and spoken Spanish language proficiency
      • Experience with street outreach with highly vulnerable populations, particularly those with health, mental health, and substance abuse issues.
