Complex Networks is looking for a talented Editor-In-Chief to
develop, articulate, implement, and oversee the strategic vision of
the Complex editorial operation.
The Editor-In-Chief is responsible for all dot-com written
content as well as Complex News video content and its sub-products,
including, but not limited to Complex World, and should bring an
entrepreneurial approach to expanding our team and our impact.
Lead on all our editorial efforts, taking into account shifting
media trends, tentpole event coverage (e.g. elections, NBA All-Star
etc.), and ways to maximize our contribution to global, national,
and local press
Lead the team in ideating and developing cover products and
shaping the vision of what they can be, while ensuring high
editorial quality, brand alignment, and sales opportunities.
Ensure that, across all platforms, the content meets the highest
standards of editorial excellence and continues Complex voice as
the leading youth culture brand, with consistent taste and tone.
Maintain awareness at all times of the cultural climate to help
evolve the taste and tone to adapt to and grow the audience.
Identify spaces for potential content expansion.
Hire, retain, and develop the Complex editorial team, with
executive oversight into the management of staff, organizational
structure, assignment of objectives, and departmental budgets.
Oversee and guide our team of editors, ensuring ethical and
journalistic standards while also pushing an efficient system to
react to the news cycle in an informative and credible way.
Encourage inclusion, fairness, respect, trust, accountability,
integrity, and transparency
Ensure budget is in line with editorial goals and
Represent Complex as a public-facing ambassador in the media and
at industry and brand events
Oversee content strategy and curation for Complex Conversations
Provide creative input into video and podcast development
process as well as merch & e-commerce, all keeping in tune with the
integrity of the brand
Leverage industry relationships to generate premium content and
activation opportunities. Build and maintain relationships with
outside artists and talent and leverage those relationships for
organizational goals, pertaining to both content and
Work with executive leadership, acting strategically to carry
out brand vision to boost position of Complex in the market
Work with Director of Content Development to lead the editorial
team to maximize and optimize content output
Requirements Strong leadership skills with at least 6-8 years of
experience of managing a team of journalists in a fast-paced,
deadline-driven digital environment
First-rate editorial judgment and demonstrable skills as a
writer and editor
Ability to generate original ideas for creative and engaging
content across text, video, and social platforms
Deeply versed in Complex brand and mission, with the flexibility
to adapt, evolve, and pivot in a purposeful way alongside the
Demonstrable interpersonal skills with the ability to manage,
motivate, and mentor a diverse and talented team of writers and
Strong collaborative skills, including experience of liaising
with stakeholders across the company
Experience in a premium editorial environment and experience in
Strong understanding of online publishing and digital
Results-oriented personality and demonstrated track record
