The Gigabit Ethernet Data Multiplex System (GEDMS) program is
seeking a Mid-Level Systems Engineer (Level 3) to support missions
and payloads activities.
GEDMS is an accredited ship-wide Platform Information Technology
(PIT) control system data network that is the latest variant of
Boeing's AN/USQ-82(V) family of shipboard networks. The system is
designed for use on U.S. Navy Surface Combatants, including
Amphibious ships and the Arleigh Burke class of destroyers, DDG-51
and follow-on derivatives, Aegis Ashore installations, and Foreign
Military Sales (FMS) platforms.
Candidate will support system engineering activities on these
platforms and at government land-based facilities.
Position Responsibilities:
Candidate will evaluate customer and operational needs to define
and coordinate system performance requirements.
Supports various analyses to optimize total system of systems
and/or system architecture.
Performs analyses for safety, reliability, maintainability,
testability, human systems integration, system security,
certification, and other specialties quality factors into a
preferred configuration to ensure mission success.
Support shipyard activities for system integration and performance
analysis.
Perform system trade studies, Plan of Action & Milestones (POAM)
and ROMs.
Support system interface design documentation and requirements
reviews.
Assist with program scheduling, resource assessment and
planning.
Candidate will interface with and present material briefings to the
customer.
This position has been identified as a virtual opportunity and does
not require applicants to live in Bangor, ME.
This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security
Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship. An
interim and/or final U.S. secret clearance Post Start is
required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor's degree or higher acquired through advanced technical
education from an accredited course of study in engineering,
computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
Experience collaborating and coordinating across hardware,
software, integration and test, quality, and production engineering
disciplines to plan, architect, design, develop and verify system
through product lifecycle including production and fielded system
support
Experience developing Engineering Change Proposals (ECP's),
planning, organizing, implementing and monitoring of requirements
management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management
and technology readiness assessment processes
Experience with shipyard operations including shipboard
integration, test and system assessment
Experience with shipboard Navy interior communications and network
requirements/equipment (i.e. PLC, switches, routers) and
operational performance
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Experience with the AN/USQ-82(V) (DMS / FODMS / GEDMS) shipboard
network
Experience communicating with technical personnel from multiple
skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information and
issues impacting design, production, and support of products,
services, or other deliverables
Experience in a role that required the ability to understand the
big picture and the inter-relationships of all positions and
activities in the system, including the impact of changes in one
area on another area.
Experience in a role that required the skill and ability to:
collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data; summarize
findings; develop conclusions and recommendations from appropriate
data sources
Experience resolving cross-functional technical issues
Experience evaluating customer and /operational needs to define and
coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical
parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and
program interfaces
Experience performing analyses to optimize total system of systems
and/or system architecture
Experience performing analyses for affordability, system design,
safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems
integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system
security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other
specialties such as assessing obsolete components and quality
factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission
success
Typical Education/ Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical
education from an accredited course of study in engineering,
computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor)
and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an
equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g.
PhD, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET
accreditation is the preferred, although not required,
accreditation standard.
Relocation:

guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and
qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range: $81,000- $144,000
